Dong Fenghua, 56 years old, is a native of Jiamaying Township, Wucheng County, Shandong Province. In 1986, she was introduced to her husband Bo Jianguo and married him. In 1988, their son was born, and they lived a simple and happy life.

Dong Fenghua set up a kindergarten in her village after marriage. As she was cheerful, warm, reasonable, and good at teaching, the villagers nearby gave their children to the care of her. Her husband was mainly responsible for the farm work in the fields, and he weaved bamboo sieves for sale in his spare time. So the couple lived a prosperous life through their hard work.

In May 1997, Dong Fenghua learned that practicing Falun Gong could not only improve one’s health but also make one a "good person". Therefore, she began to practice Falun Gong as others did. Her husband Bo Jianguo, who was young and curious, also practiced Falun Gong with her when he was free. It wasn't until 1999 when Falun Gong was outlawed by the government that Bo Jianguo realized Falun Gong was an evil cult. Then, he urged his wife, Dong Fenghua, to quit the evil cult while stopping practicing Falun Gong himself. However, Dong Fenghua refused to listen to his advice, as she believed that she practiced Falun Gong for the benefit of her whole family. Besides, she often brought home Falun Gong books and pamphlets. Gradually, she fell deep into the quagmire of Falun Gong, saying, "I’ll never give up Falun Dafa at any price." Frequently, she hung out with her fellow practitioners outside and stayed with them for a few days every time before coming back home. As a result, her kindergarten had to stop its operation, and no one helped her son with his homework and daily life.

In 2003, Dong Fenghua was punished for breaking the law. After that, her attitude changed somewhat as she became less stubborn than before. Then, her husband persuaded her to live a good life with him. Together, they took care of the crops in their fields and ran a small chicken farm. When their son got married in 2010, they bought an apartment for him in the county town with the money they saved over the years. It seemed as if their life was back on track.

One day, in August 2011, Dong Fenghua was hit by a truck on her way to her son's home in the county town. Her right leg was fractured in the accident, resulting in her being hospitalized for more than a month. After her leg recovered, she thought it was because she stopped practiced Falun Gong in recent years that she had the accident, so she started to practice it again. During December, Dong Fenghua’s husband Bo Jianguo also suffered a car accident on his way to the hospital to deliver a meal to Dong’s father, who was hospitalized with a heart attack and left unattended because Dong was out distributing Falun Gong leaflets. The accident led to Bo Jianguo’s skull fracture and bleeding, for which he went into a coma and stayed in the intensive care unit of the hospital for 20 days before waking up. After the accident, all his family’s savings had been spent on his treatment. However, his wife Dong Fenghua cared nothing about him during that period.

In June 2012, Dong Fenghua was punished by law again for spreading cult propaganda materials, but later she continued to distribute Falun Gong leaflets. In 2014, her son had a daughter born in the family, so her son persuaded her to give up Falun Gong and help him take care of his daughter, but she refused to listen to his advice, making her daughter-in-law very dissatisfied with her. Her son, who had been caught in a dilemma between two his wife and his mother, ended up suffering from schizophrenia and getting divorced with his wife.

In 2016, Dong Fenghua was sentenced to two years in prison for organizing and using the cult organization to undermine the implementation of laws. Her family savings had been used up, but her son had to take medication to control his condition. The life of her family could only be supported by her husband, who had lost the ability to do hard work, doing some cleaning in the village, and her son doing odd jobs in the construction teams occasionally. It is the Falun Gong evil cult that has brought them to a miserable end. So, the saying that "One person practicing benefits the whole family" is a lie. The evil cult will only lead to the destruction of one’s family.
